Axel Einar Hjorth Swedish Art Deco "Abo" mirror, Nordiska Kompaniet.

 

Exquisite Swedish Art Deco "Åbo" mirror designed by Axel Einar Hjorth and made by Nordiska Kompaniet 1929-30, Stockholm. Original red "crackle" lacquered finish with parcel-gilt Greek key patterns in relief at the base, and stylized floral on the crown. Height: 62.5", Width: 24", Depth: 1.5".

 

Axel Einar Hjorth (1888-1959) was one of Sweden's top designer. From 1927 to 1938  he worked as chief designer and architect for Nordiska Kompaniet, the lead maker of modern furniture in Sweden. He designed the interiors for the Swedish Pavilion at the 1929 International Exhibition at Barcelona, and exhibited at the Century of Progress exhibition in Chicago, 1933-34.
